Help: Retire a field
Data dictionary
For CPUC system administrators. A field is retired, never deleted, after three reviews: who files or reads it (usage), who relies on it in published data (audience), and whether a CPUC decision, resolution or the Standard Practice Manual still requires it (regulatory).
Retiring makes a new catalog version with the field marked retired from the date given. The field stays in the dictionary and in earlier filings and downloads, uploads that still carry the column are read and the column ignored, and it leaves the upload templates and schemas on that day. A field the register of CPUC-mandated changes says is required cannot be retired.
How to
- Give the date (today or later), the three reviews and the reason, then Retire.
- Announce the retirement in a release note before the date.
A tour of the page
On the page, the (?) beside the heading opens this help, and Take a tour of this page shows these steps one at a time beside the part of the page each describes. Some steps are only for parts that some people see, or that only some pages of this kind have.
-
What to review
What the catalog says about the field, its audience, the decision that requires it, its cost tests and where it is used.
-
The reviews
The date it takes effect, the usage, audience and regulatory reviews, and why it is retired. All are kept with the field.
